Grapes

India is among the leading exporters of fresh grapes in the world, with its grape shipments growing steadily in recent years. During the 2024–25 export season, India exported hundreds of thousands of metric tonnes of grapes, earning around USD 417 million in revenue, showing strong demand for Indian fruit abroad. Indian grapes are particularly competitive because they supply fresh fruit during the off‑season for many European producers, making them especially attractive to global buyers.

The European Union remains India’s biggest export market, with countries like the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Germany among the top importers of Indian grapes. Other important destinations include the Russian Federation, United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh, reflecting a broad global footprint. The Netherlands often acts as a key distribution hub for further shipments across Europe due to its central location and strong logistics networks.

Grape exports are supported by strong production in major growing regions such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Mizoram, with Maharashtra alone contributing a large share of India’s export volumes. Exporters and growers use advanced packhouses, cold‑chain facilities, and quality certification systems (e.g., APEDA standards) to meet strict international requirements and maintain fruit freshness during transit to distant markets.
